Rebecca is a quilt maker, author, designer, and teacher.
After graduating with a BA in Economics and Managerial Studies from Rice University she spent 2 years teaching high school through the Teach for America program. Rebecca then pursued a Masters of Public Health from Saint Louis University and worked in behavioral health research with a focus on cancer preventive behaviors.
While she pursed these ventures, as a fourth generation quilt maker, Rebecca's sewing basket never left her side. Since she was a young girl, Rebecca has always been around quilt making and other domestic arts such as garment sewing and embroidery. Rebecca always found inspiration in traditional designs and classical piecing techniques. Shorty after college, Rebecca began to explore her love of color through modern and improvisational quilt making. The journey led Rebecca to discover her voice as a maker. It was through quilting Rebecca was able to realize her potential as an artist.
Rebecca started her website and pattern company, Bryan House Quilts, as an homage to her artistic roots in classical quilt making. Rebecca strives to create patterns with modern designs inspired by classic quilt designs and always, always playful color.
Rebecca's love of color is best exemplified in her first book Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts that Play with Color (Stash Books, 2015). Rebecca believes firmly in the power of color as a driver of creativity. If it's not colorful, don't do it! Rebecca also finds much inspiration in designs featuring a singular shape. Her second book, Modern Triangle Quilts: 70 Graphic Triangle Blocks - 11 Bold Samplers (Stash Books, 2017) showcases Rebecca's love of designs using repeating geometric shapes.
Rebecca teaches workshops around the country at individual quilt guilds as well as venues such as QuiltCon and AQS Quilt Week. She also teaches online quilting and design workshops through her website. Rebecca has made teaching appearances on QNNtv as well as Fresh Quilting TV.
Rebecca is an award winning quilter whose quilts have been shown at International Quilt Fesitival, QuiltCon and QuiltWeek, Paducah. Rebecca's quilt designs have been featured in several magazines including American Patchwork & Quilting, Love Patchwork & Quilting, Modern Quilts Unlimited, and BLOCK Magazine.
Rebecca's creativity thrives on color, shape, and good coffee. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her husband, 4 children, and 2 dogs. Visit her website for more: www.bryanhousequilts.com.
